Question
I take YAZ birth control and my doctor said if i didnt want my period i can just take the next pack. i've been doing that for 5 months now and i'm getting a brown discharge that does not smell at all. also i get a lot of cysts and pains on my ovaries or uterus, either of those, and some people say it can be cysts on them. does that affect my chance on children?
Answer
Taking ocps continuously for months at a time can occasionally cause intermittent spotting (also called breakthrough bleeding) during the month. Sometimes the bleeding increases to the point that you might just need to have a week off the pill (similar to taking the placebo week) to flush out the lining and start over. Many people are not able to take ocps continously for more than a few months at a time without having breakthrough bleeding.
Taking ocps continously will not affect future fertiilty. Also, taking ocps helps decrease formation of ovarian cysts which is helpful for those patients who occasionally form painful symptomatic cysts.
