To get the IUD, do you have to have had a baby before getting an IUD?

This used to be a relative contraindication for IUD insertion. Now, we realize that the IUD can be a good birth contol option for patients who have not had a pregnancy before. Your physician can discuss with you further to see if you are a good candidate for IUD use, i.e. monogomous relationship, no recent STDs or PID, normal pelvic exam.
