Question
My daughter is 16 years old and has never had sexual intimacy. However, for the first time she has a white gooey vaginal discharge with a smell, but no itching or pain. She sees it in her panty or in the shower. Is this normal? What should I do? Thanks, mom.
Answer
Chances are good that it is perfectly normal, and the only smell to worry about is a "bad" one. If she wants to know if it is normal, she should keep a little calendar of her period and different types of discharge. Chances are good she will notice that she has the same type of discharge at the same time each month, making it normal. As always, if it changes or she is worried, she can talk to her doctor.
