    Question

Hi: I am from a tropical country with high heat and humidity. For the past week or so, I have been having some infection around the pubic area. The infection occurs in the form of circular rings of spots which itch to an extent but do not hurt. The itching is pretty high. The red spots occurs all over the upper thighs and testicles, but not on the penis. The spots or sort of boils on the testicles are not circular. Also the area is emitting a foul odor. I went to a local pharmacist who our family regularly consults. He suggested that it was a fungal infection and nothing to worry about. He gave me a sulphur-based cream to apply on it and an antihistamine. He also suggested applying an anti-itching powder on it. After applying the above, the infection seems to have subsided but the testicles are "shedding skin" if I may say so. I am very worried as to whther this will affect my sex life. Is this a recurring infection? How can I prevent it in the future? Please help. Thanks in advance.

    Answer

It does sound like a fungal infection and the "shedding skin" is probably just scaling from the infection and scratching. No, this will not affect your sex life. However, you should get the rash cleared up before you have sex.
