Question
Is it normal for a 15-year-old boy to have toys made from girls' or ladies' clothing for sexual purposes hidden in a closet? He has been doing this for guite a while.
Answer
During adolescence, youth experience a number of physical and emotional
changes that raise curiosities and questions about their identity.
During this time of identity formation, it is natural that sexual
interest begins. Often times youth feel awkward about these new interests and feelings. As your son begins to explore his sexual feelings, it is not unusual for him to use female clothing items to help explore his interests and fantasies. This is likely one of the ways he is trying to become more familiar with feelings of arousal, as well as becoming more familiar with his own sexual identity. As a parent it is important that you foster an environment of openness and acceptance as he comes to understand more about his identity and interests.
