Question
I have had protected and unprotected sex with my boyfriend. Nothing has ever gone wrong with my vagina. Just maybe a week ago, it began to hurt when I peed. I also took a look at my vagina and realized my inner lips were burgundy/purple. I am afraid to let my mother know and come with me to the doctor's office. What is this? And what should I do?
Answer
First, you are playing with fire by not having protected intercourse all of the time. You need to start a reliable method of birth control and use condoms 100 percent of the time. You can go see your local Planned Parenthood to get an exam and birth control. You might be able to get the "hurts when I pee" looked into, too!
Second, the hurting when you pee may suggest a urinary infection, so you do need to see your own doctor, but at 15 you can likely make your own appointment. Talk to your mom about wanting to be a little more independent and learn how to take care of your own health, make appointments, etc. Or, the urinary infection may be from dehydration, etc., and not necessarily related to sex, so just talk with her. Good luck.
