    Question

I am 14 and almost 4 months years of age. I am writting this letter to plead for help. My voice still hasn't broken and it pulls me bak. It lowers my self esteem and i get bullied for this. Is there anyway i or a doctor can do that will make my voice break. Please I really need my voice to break to make me a more conident person and to not be embarressed to talk in public. Is there ANYTHING AT ALL I can do to make my voice break. Please.

    Answer

It is just a matter of time before your voice will "break" and get a lower pitch. This is related to the effect testosterone has on the vocal cords and the larynx and in some boys it takes some time for the vocal cords to mature fully. You should no worry and there is no intervention that I would recommend at this time to expadite this process. You just need to educate your friends about this and try not to let this bother you or lower your self esteem in any way. I am a male physician and I do not believe my voice broke until age 17 or so, not to discourage you but to reassure you that this is NORMAL!
