    Question

I'm an 18 year old guy in college. I unexpectedly get over 8 hours of sleep everyday. Is it bad to sleep for over 8 hours? I have heard in recent studies that you should sleep from 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 hours. Whats your take and why? Evidence? Thanks!!!

    Answer

You're not getting enough sleep! Adults (that's you now!) still need 8 to 9 hours of sleep for their bodies and minds to be recharged properly. Not getting enough sleep is a significant stressor on your body. College is a natural time to cut short your sleep and you may think you don't need it, but it's not true. Get your sleep -- you will encode all that studying better. You may even surprise yourself when test time comes around.
