Question
My daughter is 9 1/2 years old and for the last few months she showed me this brown discharge on her underwear. What could it be? Is this her cycle starting early? Don't know what to do, please help.
Answer
It could likely be her period starting, especially if she has other signs of puberty: hair under her arms, pubic hair, breasts growing. You can keep a calender of her cycle, encourage her to keep pads in her backpack, and talk to her doctor if you're worried. It would not be unusual, as many girls start their periods at 10 or 11.
