    Question

Can a social worker take you out of a home because you got pregnant in that home?

    Answer

Hi,   Your question about a social worker removing you from the home can be more complicated than it seems. The short answer is that any minor under the age of 18 years old has to be safe and receiving care from an appropriate guardian in an appropriate setting. That means there should be no abuse or neglect. Getting pregnant as a minor may be the result of abuse or neglect or may not; and as you can imagine the age of the minor would also play a part. Social workers follow up on reports of abuse/neglect; they conduct investigations and are supposed to take in all the facts and follow the law, and the law is about abuse and neglect, not pregnancy per se. If there?s family problems or personal problems that are playing a part in your life or someone?s you know, it?d be good to get some help sorting it out, and counseling can do that. Hope that helps. You can always call teen hotlines which you?ll find on the PAMF teen website: http://www.pamf.org/teen/hotlines.html
