    Question

Well, where should I begin? I'm a 17-year-old female and I'm a lesbian, I fell in love with my best friend last year who was also lesbian. We flirted a bunch throughout our whole friendship and then we started to drift apart. I know she has moved on and everything but I'm currently depressed and find myself crying everytime I think of her. I really miss our friendship cause we rarely speak anymore, but I find it necessary that we don't speak at the moment. This really confuses me and I dont understand why I want to still be her friend even if we are hanging by a thread ... I feel like I'm holding on to something that shouldn't be held onto. I don't know what to do and I rarely feel like even getting up to see the sun some days. Anyways thank you for your time and I really hope that you could read this message and give me some sort of advice.

    Answer

It is normal to miss a friend and the "could have been" love - and it sounds like you are ready to move on, to, but need a little help. Please talk with a doctor, counselor, or parent who will support you through a tough time. Most medical insurance has some coverage for counseling, so ask a parent. You do not need to say why, just that as a teen, it would be nice to have a professional to help sort through the emotions! You do not need to handle this alone!
