Question
I'm 14 and me and my boyfriend (going on a year and four months) are thinking about having oral sex. And we are both virgins still. Do you think it will lead to other things? Please help.
Answer
I usually try and not sound all mom-like and preachy but you did ask for help, so here it is: Please think twice about starting to be sexually active at age 14. Your body is not even done developing until you are about 18 and you are more vulnerable to sexually transmitted infections. The earlier you start having sex -- any kind of sex. Please consider putting off sex, and enjoy your life!
Oral sex brings risks. You can get all sexually transmitted infections via your mouth, and dams and condoms should be used to prevent exchange of fluids. It may also lead to vaginal sex and the risk of pregnancy, so if you are serious about going forward with this. Make an appointment at Planned Parenthood together and talk to a health care person about which birth control might be right for the two of you.
