    Question

I'm bulimic and I normally throw up everything I eat, but today at dinner I couldn't make myself throw up and now I'm kind of concerned. Should I be concerned or does this just happen sometimes?

    Answer

I'm glad you wrote in and expressed your concern. Bulimia is not good for your body as well as making you feel lousy. It you are feeling the need at almost every meal, you need to get some help to stop. If you can, try letting your parents know you have gotten a little stuck and need some help. If this seems out of the question try your doctor, a school counselor a pastor or even a friends parent. When bulimia goes on for along time,it gets harder and harder to stop and there are risks to everything from you teeth to your heart. It gets har to go out with friends when eating is involved and to always feel that you are hiding and ashamed. The fact that you could not throw up this one time may mean that you are ready to stop or it may mean that something has changed in your body. A doctor needs to help you sort this out. Seeing if you can eat normal healthy meals without throwing up at least some of the time is a step in the right direction. My best wishes that you can see the good qualities in yourself, both physical and mentally, and that you can get beyond the bulimia.
