Question
What is recommended for an overweight teenager who has made a Facebook page using a made-up name and a photo of a beautiful girl? Who has flirted and made friends with boys that she would never make in real life. Help, please.
Answer
The good news is that the experience of flirting and making friends can be seen as an opportunity for her to develop self-confidence, as the words and personality are all her own. The issue is that she does not perceive herself as friend-worthy when her real picture is used. She needs support and maybe professional counseling to help her bring the two parts of herself together and accept herself for who she is, not just skin deep. I hope she is willing to have a Facebook page for her real self soon!
