    Question

My 12-year-old daughter just confided in me she thinks she has depression. She said she hasn't been happy since 5th grade and puts an act on that she is happy. Could this be hormone emotions? She got her period around that time, summer of 5th grade. Should I have a talk with her doctor? She doesn't want to.

    Answer

Yes, please your daughter has obviously put some thought into this and it is important that you take her seriously and make an appointment to talk with her doctor ASAP. The doctor can help you decide what to do and make a referral to a counselor, if that is the best thing to do. Please tell her that you love her and since you do not know what the best way to help her is, you are both going to talk to the dcotor so she can feel better. Good luck!
