Do I have an eating disorder?
Posted on: 02/25/2004
I was wondering if I have an eating disorder. I'm not throwing up, but I'm constantly worried about my weight and self image. Even though I'm 5'5 and weigh 126 (pounds) I still have a little bit of a stomach which concerns me. A lot of my friends are skinny, just even normally, they say I'm skinny too, but I don't believe them. I always have it in my head that I'm fat, is that a problem?
It sounds like you're having a bit of a difficult time. Eating disorders often have more to do with what is going on in you head than elsewhere. If you are worrying about your "tummy" or your looks in general to the point where you feel like avoiding social events or can't be comfortable with friends or you find that you are spending a lot of time thinking about how you look or what you can or can't eat then it is time to find someone to help you sort this out before it starts altering you life. Unless you really have a terrible relationship with you parents, you can give them a try and tell them that you would like to talk with your doctor or a counselor or therapist. A nutritionist can help you figure out a healthy diet for you height and age. If your friends are concerned it is probably time to ask for some help. Be brave!
