After Hours Care
When to Use PAMF’s Advice Line
The physicians of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, including your doctor, take turns answering calls on urgent issues after regular business hours. This special service is intended to help people seeking urgent medical advice.
This service is not intended to be used by patients to discuss test results, request prescription refills or speak with a personal physician. The on-call doctor cannot provide refills of routine medications, prescribe narcotics, or prescribe new medications over the phone. If you wish to discuss test results, please contact your primary care doctor during working hours.
When to Go to the Hospital
If you experience extreme pain, severe headache, chest or abdominal pain, persistent nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, or other uncontrollable problems after hours when your doctor is not in the clinic, please go to your local Emergency Room for evaluation or call 911.
If you have less severe symptoms which need attention, please go to one of the PAMF’s Santa Cruz Urgent Care Centers for care, we have 2 clinics in Santa Cruz and 1 in Watsonville and Scotts Valley.
