Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Medical Team
The medical team at the Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) consists of talented plastic surgeons, physician assistants (PAs), registered nurses and patient service representatives (PSRs). Each team member plays an integral role in providing you with the highest quality care possible.
Plastic Surgeons
After graduating and receiving a degree from an accredited medical school, plastic surgeons receive an additional five to seven years of internship and residency training. At least three of those years are committed to plastic surgery training to obtain hands-on experience in surgical techniques specific to repairing or reconstructing parts of the body.
Plastic surgery is separated into two fields:
- cosmetic surgery for non-medical reasons
- reconstructive surgery for restoration of the form and function of the body

Licensed Physician Assistants
There are also several licensed physician assistants in the department who practice under the supervision of the surgeons. They assist in complex surgeries, perform minor surgical procedures and handle post-operative follow up care.

Nursing Staff
Our nurses are the primary contact for patients having surgery and help coordinate patient care. They are also a key source of emotional support, orienting you and your family to the department, answering questions and helping you manage your care.

Patient Service Representatives
Our Patient Service Representatives (PSRs) are the first people who greet you when you arrive at the department. They check you in, schedule upcoming appointments and will direct your questions to the appropriate person.
