    About Palo Alto Medical Foundation

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation for Health Care, Research and Education (PAMF) is a not-for-profit health care organization dedicated to enhancing the health of people in our communities. This includes more than 700,000 patients and countless community members across Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties.

PAMF is part of the Peninsula Coastal Region of Sutter Health, a family of not-for-profit hospitals and physician organizations that share resources and expertise to advance health care quality. Serving more than 100 communities in Northern California, Sutter Health is a regional leader in cardiac care as well as care of women and children, and is a pioneer in advanced patient safety technology. Sutter Health’s Peninsula Coastal Region also includes Mills-Peninsula Health Services, based in Burlingame and San Mateo.

Growing to Meet the Needs of Our Community
Our organization has undergone recent changes in order to continue providing the best possible health care. In January 2008, the three medical groups historically affiliated with PAMF—Camino Medical Group (CMG), Palo Alto Medical Clinic and Santa Cruz Medical Clinic (SCMC)—merged to form a single medical group. Today, the merged physician group operates as a single employer with more than 1,000 physicians working in partnership with approximately 4,300 PAMF employees.

In April 2010, nearly 250 employees from Mills-Peninsula Medical Group (MPMG), Bay Area Pediatrics Medical Group (BAPMG), Cardiovascular Associates of the Peninsula and San Mateo Medical Group officially became PAMF employees under the newly created Mills-Peninsula Division of PAMF. Doctors from PAMF’s Mills-Peninsula Division and MPMG together form the Mills-Peninsula Physician Network, dedicated to providing multispecialty care to patients in San Mateo County. The network works closely with Mills-Peninsula Health Services, which operates Mills-Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame and Mills Health Center in San Mateo.

Today, PAMF’s four divisions - the Camino Division, Mills-Peninsula Division, Palo Alto Division and Santa Cruz Division - use advanced electronic health record technologies to provide its patients with a coordinated network of care that includes more than 40 different locations and access to hundreds of specialists, including rare specialties such as gynecologic oncology and pediatric neurology.
