Reflections on Giving:
PAMF 2000 Annual Report

Exploring ideas, discovering answers
A scientist's job is to search for answers: to reveal the who, what, why, where and when of the mysteries that stand between current knowledge and future progress. At the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, these explorations take place under the auspices of the PAMF Research Institute, which was established in 1950 as a center for basic and clinical research. More than a half century later, the Research Institute continues to conduct basic scientific and social research programs, to foster the exchange of ideas among scientists and the public and to provide research training for promising young scientists. There are currently four departments at the Research Institute: Cardiovascular Biology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Health Services Research and Clinical Research. Philanthropic support is of vital importance to the Research Institute. All research gifts received through Planned Giving are used to build its endowment, which serves as the principal means for recruiting scientists and developing scientific programs.
