The Palo Alto and Camino divisions created community advisory councils to promote open communication with local leaders and community organizations about PAMF's community-benefit activities. The groups' objectives are to enhance community collaborations on programs and services that will improve the health of the local population, including the underserved. A Citizens Advisory Committee also was formed in San Carlos to provide input and feedback regarding PAMF's proposed health care campus in
San Carlos.

PAMFOnline was honored for Best Interactive Site and Best Care/Disease Management Site run by a medical practice or clinic in the eHealthcare Leadership Awards, which recognize the best Web sites of health care organizations in the country. PAMFOnline is an innovative set of Internet-based services that allow patients to connect to key portions of their electronic health record. Users also may request appointments and prescription renewals, view recent test results, and communicate with their physicians and nurses.

The local Center for Employment Training (CET) program recognized the Camino Division for its role in training and employing CET graduates. The Camino Division has provided internships and jobs for CET medical assistants and medical administrative assistants for the past seven years. CET is a nonprofit program that promotes professional and personal development for low-income, at-risk youth and adults with vocational training and support services.

Physicians from the Palo Alto and Camino divisions gave free annual physical examinations to St. Francis High School athletes at PAMF's Los Altos Center. Palo Alto Division physicians have served as St. Francis team physicians for more than 20 years.

Nine children or grandchildren of Palo Alto Division staff received scholarships totaling $15,750 through the Sutter Scholars program, and 12 Camino Division families received scholarships totaling $29,500. Sutter Scholars was established in 2003 to support the college education of employees' children and grandchildren from across the Sutter network.

In the Camino Division's annual employee satisfaction survey, 90 percent of participating employees reported they were happy with their jobs overall. Eighty-six percent of employees participated in the Web-based survey.

2004

The Camino Division celebrated its 50th anniversary with a succession of events for employees and patients. Six physicians founded the group in 1954 as the Sunnyvale Medical Clinic.

The Palo Alto and Camino divisions were honored with a joint award of excellence in the 16th annual Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) for their 2003 Advanced Access advertising campaign, "I Saw My Doctor Today." The award recognizes excellence in graphic design, editorial content and overall communications.

The PAMF Web site (www.pamf.org) won an award in a national competition run by Medicine on the Net magazine. PAMF was one of three organizations to win for Outstanding Content in the Hospital/Health System category, an award that recognizes sites with "extensive, balanced, up-to-date, well-organized and credible" information.

Bay Area Parent magazine recognized the Camino Division with its "Best Family Supportive Company" award as the best place to find
support groups, classes and health information.

The Palo Alto Division is participating in the City of Palo Alto Utilities' PaloAltoGreen program, a nationally recognized, voluntary effort to use renewable energy. PAMF purchases 75 megawatt-hours per month - or about 20 percent of its monthly energy consumption - from clean wind and solar generation sources.

PAMF was a major sponsor of the Ravenswood Family Health Center, a nonprofit community clinic located in East Palo Alto. The center offers primary care services to multi-ethnic, low-income families and uninsured area residents. PAMF has contributed significant financial assistance, educational support and equipment.

Dr. Francis A. Marzoni was named president of the Palo Alto Health Care Division, taking over the role from Dr. David Druker, who continues as chief executive officer of the Foundation and of Sutter's Peninsula Coastal Region. Dr. Marzoni joined the Clinic in 1978 as a general surgeon, was elected to the physician partnership's executive board in 1997 and had served as its chairman since 2001.

The Palo Alto Division received top scores again for employee satisfaction within the Sutter Health network in Sutter's annual systemwide Experience of Work (EOW) survey. The division had the highest composite score among Sutter's medical foundations - 80 percent favorable for the 23 survey questions - and third-highest score in the entire Sutter system. Palo Alto Division employee participation in the survey rose from 93 percent in 2003 to 96 percent. The Sutter Scholars program in 2004 awarded scholarships totaling $42,000 to 21 family members of Palo Alto Division employees, while 13 scholarships totaling $28,750 were awarded to Camino Division families.
