Barbara Erny, M.D.
Dr. Erny has more than 15 years of experience performing cataract surgery, and has experience using all available premium lens implants. Born and raised in Cupertino, Dr. Erny earned her undergraduate degree at Cornell University, where her exemplary academic record allowed her to be inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She received her M.D. from Stanford University Medical School in 1988, and completed her internship at the State University of New York (SUNY). For her residency, Dr. Erny returned to Stanford University Hospital.
Dr. Erny speaks medical Spanish and has traveled with Flying Doctors of America and Manos de Mujeres to help South American women use medicinal plants that grow near their villages, while providing Western medicines as needed. As part of the Rainforest Health Project in Peru, she traveled with an ethno-botanist and shaman to set up clinics along the Amazon River.
Dr. Erny was honored by the Santa Clara County Medical Association with an "Outstanding Contribution in Community Service" award for medical volunteer work. She has a special professional interest in cataract surgery and environmental health. In her free time, Dr. Erny enjoys hiking, yoga, skiing, traveling and scuba diving.
