Albert Wetter, M.D., specializes in advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive weight loss surgery. He joined Mills-Peninsula in 1998 as a weight loss surgeon and led the development of minimally invasive surgery techniques. In 2000, he became medical director of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program at Mills-Peninsula.
Dr. Wetter has been recognized as a pioneer in the laparoscopic approach to the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure and also provides treatment of cancer and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
He received his medical degree from St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School in London, England in 1982. He completed his internship and residency at London University Affiliated Hospitals in London in 1987. Dr. Wetter then completed a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic general surgery at the University of California, San Francisco in 1991. He completed specialized training in laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, robotic laparoscopy and endoscopic surgery.
Dr. Wetter is a board-certified general surgeon and an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence Surgeon.
He is fluent in Spanish and is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Pacific Coast Surgical Society and the San Mateo County Medical Association.
