    Breastfeeding Consultations at PAMF

Breastfeeding Help for You and Your Baby

Breastfeeding/lactation consultants can assist new mothers with breastfeeding basics such as:

    • Latching - how to position your baby comfortably and easily at your breast
    • Feeding cues - how to know when to feed your baby and when your baby is full
    • Managing feeds - one breast or two? How often?
    • Sore nipples - how to prevent and heal them
    • Milk supply - how to develop a great supply and trouble-shooting low supply
    • Maternal nutrition - answers to your questions about your diet when breastfeeding
    • Transitioning back to work
Our lactation consultants will also help explain your newborn's behavior and help you interpret his or her signals. We will address soothing, burping, sleep (yours and your baby's) and sibling adjustment. Our lactation consultants can also assist you in resolving any conflicting information on baby care and breastfeeding.

Our expert lactation consultants work as part of your healthcare team, communicating with your baby's physician or with the mother's physician, if this is appropriate, so that you are provided with consistent advice. Our electronic medical records ensure seamless communication between your physician and lactation consultant. Lactation services are available to families throughout their breastfeeding experience.

Drop-in breastfeeding support is available at various sites. See individual locations for dates and times.

    Breastfeeding Experience Survey

In order to learn how to better support all mothers and babies, we invite our breastfeeding and pregnant patients to participate in the Bay Area Breastfeeding Experience Survey (BABES).
