    Neuro-Oncology

    The neurosurgeons and medical and radiation oncologists offer innovative, personalized care for patients with brain and spine malignancies as part of the Hiller Radiosurgery Center. In addition, treatment of functional abnormalities, including trigeminal neuralgia with radiosurgery, has been introduced using a noninvasive linear accelerator-based system. As presented at the 2011 International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Meeting in Paris, 8 patients were treated with a median dose of 80 Gy, avoiding the use of the traditional frame attached to the patient’s skull. The 80 Gy dose was delivered with a 6 mV linear accelerator beam and a 4 mm collimator, with minimal side effects or associated toxicities.

    Figure 9 is a photograph of our Novalis Tx Linear Accelerator with Quality Assurance Phantom and Brain Lab, which has ceiling-mounted digital displays that enable real-time image-guided stereotactic radiosurgery.
