Helping Families Find a Lifeline to Health Care for Their Children

Today, more families than ever are without health insurance. The physicians and professionals of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation recognize this and we are committed to helping children in the communities we serve. One way we do this is by supporting the Healthy Kids health insurance programs in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties.

Launched in 2001, the locally funded Healthy Kids program provides medical insurance for children from low-income families that are ineligible for other publicly funded programs. For only $1,000 a year, the Healthy Kids program can provide full medical, dental, vision and mental health benefits to a child.

In recent years, the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Santa Cruz and Sutter Maternity & Surgery Center have donated more than $1 million to the Healthy Kids and Healthy Families programs. In the summer of 2009, the Palo Alto Medical Foundation gave $600,000 to Santa Clara County's Healthy Kids program, so 600 needy children will now get essential health care and insurance.

Today, thousands of children in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties depend on Healthy Kids for access to care. The Palo Alto Medical Foundation donations to this community lifeline are an investment in the limitless potential of local children.
