BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic injection (or cosmetic denervation) is an effective treatment for deep frown lines between the eyes, expression lines on the forehead and crow's feet around the eyes.

Procedure:
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the trademark name for botulinum toxin, a chemical produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. Extremely small doses of this substance are injected into the tiny muscles that control facial expressions. The injection causes localized paralysis of those muscles. After treatment, the treated skin areas remain smooth and unwrinkled while untreated facial muscles contract in a normal facial expression.

The use of BOTOX® Cosmetic is very safe; however, it is not advised for women who are pregnant or people who have neurological conditions. The procedure is also not recommended for wrinkles caused by aging or sun damage, which are unrelated to muscle contraction.

Anesthesia:
Because the needle is so fine, pain associated with the procedure is mild. A topical anesthetic can be applied to minimize discomfort.

Treatment Duration:
Results become evident within five to seven days of treatment. A series of injections is usually required to achieve optimum results. Initial injections last approximately three to six months.

The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic are temporary. To achieve and maintain optimal results, the treatment needs to be repeated every three to six months.

After Care:
Slight swelling and bruising may appear at the injection site. In some cases, temporary weakness can result in nearby muscles. Activities can resume as normal.
