Steven Bates, M.D. , M.S.
Dr. Steven Bates joined the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Department of Plastic Surgery in 2007. He grew up in northern California, where he attended the University of California, Davis and received an undergraduate degree in biology. Dr. Bates received his M.D. degree from the Chicago Medical School. He then completed a six-year residency in plastic surgery at Stanford University. During this time, he trained in all aspects of plastic surgery and was actively involved in basic science research of wound healing and tissue engineering. Following his residency, Dr. Bates spent one year at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he was a clinical instructor in hand and microvascular surgery.
Dr. Bates is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. His clinical interests include cosmetic surgery, microsurgery, and reconstructive surgery of the face and breast.
Dr. Bates is married and has two children. He enjoys running, cycling, skiing and spending time with his family.
