    Philosophy of Care

I am originally from New Jersey and attended college at Cornell University in New York, where I majored in Biology. After college, I worked at a Cornell Medical College laboratory on a pediatric neurodegenerative disorder. It was working with the families of these affected children that helped me realize I wanted to be a physician. Although I loved working in the lab, interacting with these patients and their families, and seeing their resilience in the face of such a devastating disease quickly became the driving force in my work, and the most meaningful part of my day. I attended medical school at the University of Sydney in Australia. Medical care in Australia has a strong emphasis on preventative medicine and this experience is what helped foster my interest and passion in this area. After medical school, I returned to New Jersey to complete my internship and residency training in internal medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. During my residency, I further cultivated my passion for preventative medicine with research on routine healthcare screening. After residency, my husband, our son, and I moved to the Bay Area in pursuit of the healthy lifestyle we promote to our patients. Living here, we enjoy hiking, jogging, cycling, fresh produce, and cultural diversity. I chose the field of Internal Medicine because I enjoy forming and cultivating relationships with my patients, as well as educating patients on preventive, acute, and chronic medicine. I believe that patients and physicians should be partners in health care, and that my role is to provide counsel and evidence-based information to my patients so that they may make an educated decision about their care. I feel that it is an extreme privilege to be present for some of the most important decisions and milestones of my patients' lives and I look forward to being your healthcare advocate.
