    Philosophy of Care

My practice philosophy centers around three important concepts. Firstly, I aspire to be a humanistic doctor. A humanistic doctor demonstrates awareness & acknowledgment of the suffering of another, respect for the autonomy and values of the patient, and believes in service beyond what is required. Further these values are reflected in attitudes and behaviors that are not just tolerant, but respectful to the values, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of others. I believe the patient physician relationship is vital to any treatment plan and deserves as much consideration as making sure the advice we give is scientifically sound. Secondly, another important concept for me is beneficence, or the importance of first doing no harm. Consequently I believe no medication is the best medication unless it is absolutely necessary. Nearly every problem has an associated medication however the body has an immense capability of self-healing often with minimal pharmaceutical intervention. I prefer partnering with my patients to help them obtain a deeper understanding of their illness to understand if we do prescribe a medication why it is important for them to take. It is the difference between a blind-follower and an active participant and in my experience this makes a world of difference in outcomes. Finally, I believe in the medical home model, increased access, and defragmentation of your health care. I enjoy working with and utilizing all available resources in order to provide the best care possible. Now that you know some of my basic principles, I look forward to being a resource for you here at PAMF.
