Calvin D. Brenneman, M.D.

Calvin "Cal" D. Brenneman, M.D., grew up in Albany, Oregon. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University in political science, having been attracted to international relations after spending his sophomore year abroad in Austria.

During this time, he also maintained a strong interest in medicine, and soon after graduation returned to his home state to attend the University of Oregon Medical School.

Dr. Brenneman received his M.D. degree in 1973 before settling in California for good. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Valley Medical Center in San Jose, with some work at Stanford University Hospital as well.

In 1976, Dr. Brenneman joined the Palo Alto Medical Clinic, where he practices general internal medicine with an additional interest in geriatrics. He was certified with additional qualifications in geriatric medicine in 1988. From 2000, when a full-time Hospitalist program was established to provide care for PAMF patients at Stanford Hospital, Dr. Brenneman continued to provide hospital care, helping to coordinate the inpatient stays of patients to ensure they received high-quality care, and helping them avoid unnecessarily long hospital stays.

Dr. Brenneman believes that his ability to treat all medical problems is enhanced when he works with patients with all spectrums of disease, including those who need hospitalization. He is also very interested in all aspects of preventive medicine and management of disease in the outpatient setting.

Dr. Brenneman has been the Deputy Chief of Medicine at Stanford University Hospital, serves on the Executive Board of the Palo Alto Medical Clinic physician partnership, and has been a member of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Board of Trustees since 1988. He is also a Clinical Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

Dr. Brenneman lives in Los Altos with his wife, Patty. They have two married daughters who also live in the area. The Brennemans enjoy their proximity to Stanford and San Francisco, and an occasional trip to their cabin in the Sierra Nevada mountains at Twain Harte.
