Cataract Surgery
Over time the lens of your eye may become cloudy, causing vision loss. This condition is known as cataracts. Surgeons can remove the patient's cloudy lens and replace it with a synthetic lens.
The procedure is usually simple and results in a majority of patients being restored to useful vision. Cataract surgery can usually be done within a local surgical center using local anesthesia, causing very little discomfort to the patient.
Recent advances in cataract surgery include the implant of accommodative and multi-focal lenses to assist with near vision and "toric" implants to correct astigmatism. Other treatments for astigmatism after cataract surgery include limbal relaxing incisions.
