Geriatrics: Medical Team
Geriatrics is the branch of medicine that focuses on health promotion and the prevention and treatment of disease and disability adults cope with in later life. A geriatrician is a medical doctor who is trained to manage the unique needs of older adults.
Older persons react to illness differently than younger adults. Doctors in this field help to manage multiple disease symptoms and develop care plans for the individual based on his or her age and special needs.
A geriatrician is usually either a board-certified family medicine or internal medicine doctor with a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine.
