Update: Thanks to our generous supporters, High Dose Radiation (HDR) brachytherapy is now available within the PAMF system. With the help of donors, staff and a Sutter Matching grant, we reached our goal of raising $400,000 to acquire this remarkable system.
Installed in the Paul L. Locatelli Center for Cancer and Primary Care over the summer, over 150,000 cancer survivors and patients throughout our four county service area will benefit from this technology.
In recent years, PAMF and Sutter Health have invested significant resources to build infrastructure and elevate the overall sophistication of cancer care. To further develop the cancer care program, Sutter Health has approved a matching grant to acquire the Varian VariSource Brachytherapy technology.
The VariSource system will be installed in the new Cancer Care Center in Sunnyvale. Compared to older, manual loaded brachytherapy techniques, High Dose Radiation (HDR) brachytherapy is a more advanced and effective treatment option for various cancers as well as soft tissue sarcomas. Because of the convenient outpatient setting for this procedure and its accuracy, our patients’ quality of life will be significantly enhanced.
With more than 150,000 cancer survivors in our four-county service area needing continued treatment, follow-up care and support after remission, we cannot afford to be behind the times. Many of these patients will benefit from HDR brachytherapy— a service currently not available anywhere in the PAMF system. With your support in 2013, this can change.

Success - $400,000 raised!
