Excellence in Women's & Children's Care Initiative in Santa Cruz
The Excellence in Women’s and Children’s Care Initiative was launched to ensure that SMSC has the resources it needs to accommodate a growing waiting list of expectant mothers while maintaining a continuum of comprehensive, high-quality pediatric care—from birth through adolescence—in a region where approximately 1 in 4 residents living in poverty are under age 18.
Funds raised for the initiative will go toward a pilot project looking at integrated behavioral health programs for mothers and children. Donor support will enable PAMF to integrate behavioral health into pediatric, perinatal, and primary care. Mental health experts believe that physicians are uniquely positioned to identify the behavioral health needs of women and children in their care, though they seldom have the training or staff support needed to consistently diagnose or effectively manage patients' treatment. Your donations could help to change that.
