Quality Health Care
Joseph H. Franks, M.D.
Joseph H. Franks, M.D., has a personal stake in fundraising for PAMF Santa Cruz. This is his hometown.
"Anything I can do to improve the health of this community is dear to my heart," Dr. Franks says. He has been instrumental in raising significant dollars for palliative care, robotic surgery and women and children’s care—all in Santa Cruz. Philanthropy runs deep in the Franks family: his wife, Layla, helped found the Sutter Philanthropy Society in Santa Cruz, raising $100,000 for palliative care through their first-ever fundraiser, "Toast to The Town."
"It’s an investment in local resources," Dr. Franks says. "You never know when someone you care about will need it." At the same time, he applauds the regional impact that results from local fundraising.
"The Palliative Care Program was rolled out in Santa Cruz and now has expanded to Palo Alto and Mountain View," he says. "One reason I joined PAMF was to have a greater impact on the community at large.
"My top priority is caring for patients. But being part of PAMF, bringing in the community and knowing how many more lives will be impacted because of their contributions, that runs a close second."
"As a physician, you heal one patient at a time. As a fundraiser, you impact the whole community."
