    Support Groups at the Mountain View Center

    The following support groups are open to patients and the community.

    • Bariatric Support Group
    • Silicon Valley AWAKE Group
    • Chronic Fatigue Support Group
    • Relationship Support Group for Women

    Bariatric Support Group

    The Bariatric Support Group meets every fourth Wednesday of of every month from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m at the Mountain View Center in Conference Room C. Group facilitators are Seema Karnik, R.D., Susan Nachshen, M.A. and Karen Handy, MPH. Call 650-404-8400 x 4619 for more information or to register.

    Silicon Valley AWAKE Group

    A.W.A.K.E. (Alert, Well and Keeping Energetic) is a mutual help group for people with sleep disordered breathing and their families. The group functions as a forum for exchanging information and increasing awareness of sleep, sleep disorders and related health concerns. The monthly meetings are led by a volunteer coordinator and attended by at least one staff member from the Palo Alto Medical Foundation's Sleep Center. Monthly meetings provide education, social interaction and sharing plus an opportunity to learn about current research and developments in sleep disorders, treatment and equipment. The AWAKE group is open to the community.

    The support group meets the third Thursday of every month from 7:00 - 8:15 p.m. at the Mountain View Center in Conference Room C. PAMF sponsors are Priscilla Sarinas, M.D. and Vadim Kagramanov, M.D. and the group coordinator is Les Besser.

    Chronic Fatigue Support Group

    The CFS/ME Support Group is a reciprocal help group for people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). This monthly meeting is led by two volunteer co-facilitators. Members of the group serve as a support to one another, both at the group meetings and in reaching out to one another through an active e-mail exchange in between meetings. Additionally, members exchange knowledge about scientific research into CFS, experiences with managing symptoms and limitations of the disease, ideas of advocacy, and helpful treatments. Occasionally, guest speakers are scheduled. This group is open to the community, and interested participants may attend on a drop-in basis.

    The support group meets the third Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mountain View Center in the OB-Gyn waiting area. Co-facilitators are Rochelle Hall, M.A., and Elizabeth Basile, LMFT.

    Relationship Support Group for Women

    This support group is open to women in our community who suffered from any level of domestic/relationship abuse. In this group, participants will learn how to communicate effectively, create and participate in healthy relationships, recognize abusive behavior and recognize the signs of trauma in themselves and their families. This group will also help participants to build self-acceptant and self-confidence, develop a safety plan, and create a better life. Through group discussions and interactions, participants will also gain value from the experiences of other women who are handling intimate partner issues similar to their own.

    The support group meets every Saturday at the Mountain View Center. Co-Facilitators are Aparna and Nicole of Next Door Solutions.
