Services
As part of the requirement for obtaining entry and/or residency to the United States, a medical examination is necessary as part of the application process. Camino Medical Group offers INS examinations conducted by a civil surgeon who is responsible for the entire examination and will record the results on the required forms.
INS medical examinations are conducted on a walk-in basis. No appointment is needed. The examination will last approximately one to two hours.
The medical examination is required for persons of all ages. The examination requirements are determined by your age and your immunization record. An adult examination (15 years or older) typically consists of the following:
- A physical examination
- A tuberculin (TB) skin test is required for all persons 2 years or older. After the skin test is applied you must return to clinic in two to three days for it to be read. A skin test is considered "positive" if there is a reaction of 5 mm or more. Anyone with a "positive" skin test must have a chest x-ray. In addition, if you have a history of TB or a history of a positive TB skin test, a chest x-ray is required. Many patients have received BCG vaccination in their home country, but a skin test for TB is still required. All persons with a question of active TB will be referred to the Santa Clara County Department Health and Human Services. In Santa Clara County, the TB controller is Karen Smith, MD, MPH. Her address is 2220 Moorpark Avenue, San Jose, CA 95128. Her office may be reached by phone at 408 885-4231.
- A blood test for HIV (the virus that causes AIDS)
- A blood test for syphilis (RPR).
- Routine immunizations such as chickenpox (varicella), MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), and tetanus-diphtheria (Td). For further information on the immunizations listed above see our travel clinic Web site: www.wellontheroad.com. Click on "Immunizations" and then click on the individual immunization. You cannot receive MMR or chickenpox vaccine if you are pregnant.
- A physical examination
- A TB skin test (see above)
- A review and update of routine pediatric immunizations.
- INS Form I-693
- Supplemental Form To I-693 (Adjustment of Status Applicant's Documentation of Immunization)
- All medications and immunization records for each family member seeking entry, especially important for pre-school and school-age children
- Any recent records of blood tests for AIDS, syphilis, or measles (rubeola), rubella (German measles), mumps, or chickenpox titers
- Any record of a chest x-ray (within 10 years)
- Any records of a skin test for TB.
You may come by the office two weeks after your examination to pick up your sealed packet containing all the required INS I-693 forms.
The packet should be given either to your lawyer or directly to the INS.
All expenses in connection with this examination must be paid by you. Your health insurance will not cover the expense. The clinic accepts cash, personal checks, Visa, Mastercard and Discover.
