Scheduling an Appointment
Call 650-853-2977
We are committed to being able to offer you a same-day appointment every time you call, if that is your desire. Whenever possible, this appointment will be with your primary care physician (PCP), otherwise, you may be seen by other providers in the department. There are several ways you can help us meet your appointment needs:
- Call early in the day: If you would like a same-day appointment we will be better able to meet your needs.
- Request an appointment for early in the day: Our greatest demand for urgent appointments tends to come later in the day. If you can schedule non-urgent appointments for the morning or early afternoon, it will be easier for us to accommodate you.
- Schedule your visits with your primary care physician (PCP): Whenever possible, please schedule your visits with your primary care physician. Receiving your care from a physician who knows you and your health care concerns will provide you with the best health care possible.
- Bring current medications to each visit: Please bring any medication that you are currently taking so that the doctor can have a complete understanding of your medical needs.
- Schedule non-urgent appointments on a day other than Monday: Mondays are generally our busiest day.
- Schedule your health maintenance exams in the Autumn: We tend to be less busy at that time of year.
- Arrive on time for your appointment: Please call ahead if you will be late or need to cancel so we can adjust our schedules and better accommodate all of our patients.
- To cancel an appointment: If you must cancel your appointment: please call 650-853-2977. After hours you will be transferred to our cancellation line to leave a message. Please give us as much notice as possible when you must cancel your appointment, at least 24 hours in advance, so that we can accommodate other patients.

Team Approach to Health Care
Physicians and physician assistants staff the Internal Medicine Department. Our doctors and physician assistant work as a team. Although you will select a primary care physician, at times you may see others providers in our department. Information from these visits will be given to your primary care physician.
If we are fully booked and you need to be seen urgently, we may refer you to our Urgent Care Center, located on the first floor of the clinic. Urgent Care is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., 365 days a year.

Weekend Appointments
Weekend appointments are limited. Doctors and staff will need to address urgent medical visits during this time. Please see your PCP during his or her regular hours as much as possible because your own doctor is most familiar with your medical history.

Urgent Needs
An Internal Medicine physician is always on call, but please reserve your calls for emergencies. Clinic operators can reach the on-call physician 24 hours a day. Unless the problem is life threatening, please call us before going to an emergency room or another health care facility:

New Patient Registration
- Registration is located on the first floor of the Lee Building.
- New Patients should arrive 30 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment to allow time for registration to obtain personal and insurance information.
- Patients without insurance or residing outside of the United States will be asked to make a deposit at the time of initial registration.

Prescription Medication Refills
Please call the pharmacy where your mediation was dispensed to request a refill. The pharmacy will call us and we will respond. If you have a specific question about a refill that you cannot address directly to the pharmacy, please call our reception desk at 650-853-2977. If you need to renew your prescription, consider logging into PAMFOnline (if already enrolled) to request your prescription renewal online. If you are not enrolled, visit PAMFOnline to register. We do not process prescription refill requests on Saturdays except for urgent needs. Your physician will usually renew your prescription within two to three business days.

Referrals to Specialists
For most medical problems you should see your internal medicine provider first. If the concern requires specialist referral, your primary care physician will make the referral and help to arrange your appointment if necessary.
