What is a Neurologist?
A neurologist is a medical doctor with specialized training in diagnosing, treating and managing disorders of the nervous system, including diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles.PAMF's neurologists help treat a wide range of disorders from headaches and learning disabilities to Alzheimer's disease and stroke. If a patient suffers from medical issues such as headaches, concussion or a stroke, the neurologist will work closely with the patient's primary care physician to decide on the optimal treatment plan. PAMF's neurologists also provide quality and compassionate care for patients with ongoing disorders such as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's disease, seizures or multiple sclerosis.
Performing a range of neurological examinations is one of the ways PAMF's neurologists reach an accurate diagnosis and determine the best possible treatment plan for each patient. These examinations may include testing the patient's muscle strength, balance and reflexes. Other important tests will measure a patient's sensations, memory, speech, language and other cognitive abilities.
