PAMF's Fremont Center Opens Optical Dispensary
November 2006
In September, the Fremont Optical Dispensary opened at the Fremont Center to offer patients a wide selection of eyeglasses, prescription and non-prescription sunglasses, as well as frame maintenance and repairs. The dispensary is open to all PAMF patients and members of the community.
"We immediately started getting lots of positive feedback from our patients," said Linh Lai, a licensed optician at the Fremont Center. "Adults and children have a variety of frame styles from which to choose. They also appreciate the convenience of having it here at PAMF."
A full-time optician is available to help patients select and fit their frames, as well as educate patients about the benefits of different types of lenses and options, said Lai.
The dispensary is located within the Department of Optometry on the third floor of Building 2 at the Fremont Center. The department provides screening medical exams and refractions for adults and children, as well as contact lens services. The Department of Ophthalmology provides eye care including cataract evaluation and surgery, care for corneal disease and glaucoma, laser treatment for medical eye diseases and more. The department also provides care for pediatric patients.
While the dispensary does not accept insurance, patients are encouraged to complete their insurance company's claim form to be reimbursed, said Lai. Patients should also find out if their health insurer reimburses a portion of the cost of glasses before they make a purchase.
The Optical Dispensary is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 to 6 p.m. Although appointments are not required for the dispensary, patients can schedule an appointment by calling (510) 498-2814.
