Specialty Spotlight: Fremont Eye Services
December 2007
Located in the Fremont Center’s newest building, the Ophthalmology and Optometry departments provide comprehensive eye care services to patients of all ages, from refraction and healthy eye examinations to the diagnosis and treatment of medical and surgical eye conditions.
Optometrists Marianne Ghatta, O.D., and Virginia Ko, O.D., are available to see patients who need routine eye examinations, including screening for corrective lenses. Drs. Ghatta and Ko also screen for diseases – such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy – and can prescribe medications to treat many eye diseases to help patients maintain their eye health.
For more complex eye conditions, ophthalmologists Judy Ou, M.D., Timothy Scott, M.D., and Gordon Smith, M.D., provide specialty care and treatment to individuals with diabetes-related eye conditions, dry eyes, macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and cornea disease, among other conditions.
Dr. Scott has professional interest and expertise in cataract surgery, and Dr. Smith provides pediatric ophthalmology services to the tiniest of patients. Dr. Ou – the newest member of the Fremont Center’s eye care services team – specializes in cataract surgery, uveitis, and corneal and external disease.
"What makes us unique is that our optometrists and ophthalmologists have a close working relationship and consult with each other to ensure our patients receive timely, high-quality care," said Dr. Ou.
In addition, the Fremont Center’s Optical Dispensary offers a selection of frames for prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses. A full-time optician is available to help patients select and fit their frames, as well as educate them about the benefits of different types of lenses and options.
