Local High School Honors PAMF Physician
November 2007
Longtime PAMF family medicine physician William Straw, M.D., was honored in September by Saint Francis High School (SFHS) in Mountain View during a ceremony before the first home football game of the season for his years of work as the school's team physician. Dr. Straw is one of three individuals –- along with St. Francis physical therapist Richard Carr, P.T., and former team physician Thomas Fuller, M.D. –- for whom the school's Center for Sports Medicine is dedicated.
"Dr. Straw has been an unbelievable blessing to our student athletes at Saint Francis High School for the past 26 years," said Michael Pilawski, director of athletics at SFHS. "His professionalism, dedication and commitment to our athletic program are unmatched. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful person and doctor committed to the student athletes at Saint Francis."
Dr. Straw, who practices at PAMF's Los Altos Center, is the team physician for the basketball, volleyball and football teams at SFHS. A cyclist and former marathon runner, Dr. Straw was the team physician for the San Francisco Giants for 13 years. However, he says that his time tending to student athletes at SFHS has been most rewarding.
"I really enjoy working with the kids and being able to give back to the community," said Dr. Straw. "There's nothing more gratifying than to work with kids and watch them grow and succeed."
