“YOUR CHILD’S HEALTH @ PAMF” WEB SITE LAUNCHED BY THE PALO ALTO MEDICAL FOUNDATION
New Web Site a Resource for Parents With Children of All Ages
The Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) went live with its new Web site, “Your Child’s Health @ PAMF” (www.pamf.org/children), on Wednesday, December 1. The Web site, which was developed with assistance from PAMF pediatricians and family practice physicians, is the newest resource available for parents with children of all ages. The new mini-site is the latest addition to PAMF’s awarding-winning Web site (www.pamf.org).
“‘Your Child’s Health @ PAMF’ is one more way to communicate with our patients,” said Mary Ann Carmack, M.D., Ph.D., chair of pediatrics at PAMF’s Palo Alto campus. “We will continue to update the site with the most current information on children’s health and wellness. The monthly newsletter will also be filled with timely topics that will benefit parents of children of all ages.”
The free monthly e-newsletter, which is a major component of the new Web site, can be received by anyone who signs up for it when they visit the site. In addition to the newsletter, the new Web site includes a section about newborns that provides detailed information on infant development, breastfeeding, common concerns and safety. There is also a section for children’s health maintenance with guidelines for immunizations and exams.
A “Common Concerns” section includes information on childhood diseases, fitness, nutrition and more. Parents will also find resources for effective parenting, managing a child’s electronic media consumption and sleep problems.
“Often when a couple is expecting their first child the focus is entirely on the birth,” said Erica Goldman, M.D., a PAMF pediatrician. “New parents get home and wonder, ‘Now what do I do?’ This site is a great tool for that transition – offering information about newborn care, choosing a pediatrician and what to expect during those first few years, as well as into the teen years.
“The ‘Common Concerns’ section really informs parents about common injuries and illnesses children are more prone to get,” Dr. Goldman added. “The children’s site offers reliable information, and hopefully some peace of mind.”
PAMF physicians will regularly answer questions submitted to the “Ask The Expert” section of the site. Visitors can scroll through the list of frequently asked questions or submit their own question.
PAMF previously launched “We’re Talking” (www.pamf.org/teen) in March 2001 and “We’re Talking Too!” (www.pamf.org/preteen) in October 2004. These Web sites, which provide important health information for teens and preteens, have received hundreds of thousands of hits from Web users across the United States as well as in other countries. Over two-million Web users visited www.pamf.org this year.
