All physicians in the department are board-certified or board-eligible specialists in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and have clinical faculty appointments at Stanford University. The physicians use Stanford University Hospital for all obstetrical care and most gynecological procedures. The Surgecenter also is frequently used for minor outpatient surgical procedures.

The nurse practitioners in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department are registered nurses who have completed advanced formal education and are certified to provide primary health care. Nurse practitioners take health histories, perform physical examinations, treat illness and counsel patients and families. Nurse practitioners perform many of the common office procedures performed by physicians, including Pap smears and ordering lab tests. Nurse practitioners assist with routine prenatal care in the office but do not deliver babies or perform surgery.

Our physicians work together as a team. If you should be seen by the on-call physician, information about your visit will be given to your primary obstetrician, who will take responsibility for follow-up as necessary.

Often a question or problem can be handled quickly and easily through a brief telephone conversation. Our physicians and nurse practitioners can be reached by calling the department's phone number listed above.

Our department has been caring for women since 1930, and we look forward to serving your medical needs. Our goal is to deliver the finest obstetrical and gynecologic care possible. If you would like more information about the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, feel free to ask any of the physicians, nurse practitioners or support staff. We welcome any suggestions for improvement in service, and look forward to caring for you!
