    Philosophy of care:

My role as a physician is to serve and educate women, and thus, empower them to make their own health care and lifestyle decisions.

What is a D.O.? I attended Osteopathic Medical School, and like an M.D., completed four years of basic medical education. Osteopathy specifically teaches a philosophy of the body's natural ability to promote health and wellness. As physicians, we encourage treating the body as a whole, as opposed to treating a specific symptom or illness. My medical practice style is very similar to that of my M.D. colleagues, but may take a slightly different philosophical approach. I can prescribe all standard medications, perform surgeries and deliveries. Like my colleagues, I am board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. My specialty OB/GYN training was undertaken at an M.D. training hospital -- Kaiser in Santa Clara, CA. For more information regarding osteopathy, please visit: www.osteopathic.org.

    Additional Background

I grew up in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon with five brothers and two sisters. After high school, I moved to Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho, where I received by degree in zoology from the University of Idaho.

Subsequently, I relocated to the Bay Area to complete medical school and my residency. Twelve years later, I returned home to Portland to practice medicine and re-experience the Northwest. Although the Northwest is an amazing place to live, I was drawn back to the Bay Area for the sunshine and outdoor activities.

My husband and I enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities. We especially love cycling and I've competed in an occasional mountain bike race. I also enjoy experimental cooking and gardening (especially if it can be put in my cooking). Future aspirations include: becoming more involved in serving the community, completing a sub-4 marathon someday, and if I'm lucky -- to be blessed with children.
