The Palo Alto Medical Foundation is now offering a four-part educational series on alcohol and drug addiction for individuals concerned about their substance use and its effect on their family. The goal of this interactive group is to educate individuals about addiction, why it is difficult to stop and what to expect during abstinence.

Topics include addiction as a brain disease, neurobiology of addiction, various drugs of abuse, how addiction disrupts the family system and how to increase your chance of sobriety. Participants may bring family members at no additional cost.

When: Thursday (four weekly sessions), 5:30 to 7 p.m.
