Ellis C. Dillon, Ph.D.
Ellis C. Dillon, Ph.D., is Assistant Research Sociologist at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Research Institute. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Dillon’s research focuses on enhancing patient and family experience of care and improving communication among patients, families, and providers. Her past research includes an ethnography of home hospice care from the perspective of patients, family members, and hospice workers. She is committed to using research as a tool to improve end-of-life care and care for patients facing serious illnesses.
She is currently working on several studies, including an evaluation of care redesign for patients with diabetes and hypertension, a randomized controlled trial testing interventions aimed at improving communication in primary care visits, and a pilot program of an intervention designed to foster advance care planning and POLST (Physicians Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment) completion.
