Peter McNair, Ph.D., MPH, MHS
Peter McNair, Ph.D., MPH, MHS, is a clinical epidemiologist at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation’s Research Institute (PAMFRI) having previously completed a 2007-2008 Harkness Fellowship in Health Care Policy and Practice sponsored by the Commonwealth Fund.
He was formerly employed in the Department of Health, Victoria, Australia, as a senior analyst in Funding Policy and clinical epidemiologist to the Victorian Surgical Consultative Council’s Surgical Outcome Information Initiative, which he established with colleagues in 2006 and 2007.
His current work focuses on using inpatient funding policy along with clinical outcome information to improve health care quality in the United States and Australia. This includes the development of a novel clinical outcome information and monitoring program for the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.
Publications in 2009 in Medical Care and Health Affairs attracted editorial comment and attention from the U.S. Medicare Payment Advisory Committee.
Additional publications in Medicare & Medicaid Research Review, Medical Care, Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health and the Medical Journal of Australia have outlined research initiatives and funding policies to reduce complications of care. He holds master's degrees from Monash University (MPH) and Latrobe University (MHS), and received his PhD from the University of Queensland.
