Engineering Lab Support
The Engineering Department is located on level A of PAMF's Research Institute in the Ames Building. The department is responsible for the day-to-day building maintenance of the Research Institute, some lab equipment design fabrication and laboratory equipment calibration, and regulatory compliance.
Building maintenance includes overseeing the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems; security systems; all lab equipment, ranging from incubators to liquid nitrogen storage containers; janitorial services; and laundry and glass wash services.
For lab equipment design and fabrication, the Engineering Department has machine and woodworking shops with loading dock access. Both shops are used to custom-fabricate many items used in the Research Institute. In addition to routine facilities work, the department is also responsible for construction projects from remodeling labs and office space to installing equipment.
The Engineering Department is also responsible for regulatory issues. It maintains the current (MSDS) building chemical inventory of the almost 1,300 chemicals used at the Research Institute. The department also prepares the Hazardous Materials Business Plan, and prepares reports for city, state and federal government regulatory agencies. In addition, Engineering is in charge of coordination, compliance and record keeping for the Research Institute's Health and Safety Program, Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Radiation Safety program.
The Research Institute's Information Technology (IT) group is also coordinated through the Engineering Department. The IT group maintains the Research Institute computer network and assists in all aspects of personal workstation usage. Please refer to the IT link for further information about IT services at the Research Institute.
